Mango Lassi

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

"Lassi is a popular traditional dahi-based drink that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Lassi is a blend of yoghurt, water, spices and sometimes fruit. Namkeen lassi is similar to doogh, while sweet and mango lassis are like milkshakes." - source: Wikipedia

To be honest, I'm not such a big fan of classic lassi, I much more prefer the version with mango. Whenever we go out for dinner and there is mango lassi on the menu - I will be drinking that mango lassi 100%. For me it's a delicious addition to a meal, great dessert or a lovely breakfast option in the summertime. Today is a beautiful sunny day, so I thought it's a good time to show you my version of mango lassi.

Ingredients ( for two-three portions) :

250 g of ripe mango fruit or mango pulp (you can usually buy it in a can in Sainsbury's for 1£)

100 g of water

1 tbsp of honey (you might want to add more if your mango is not sweet enough)

250 g of natural yoghurt

half tsp of ground cardamom

ice-cubes (optional)

If you are using fresh mango, you will need a blender or hand blender.

Method when using fresh mango :

1. Peel and cut your mango in small pieces - it should be around 250 g.

2. Place it in a blender or a bowl and add water and honey. Blitz it into smooth pulp.

3. Add yoghurt and cardamom and mix again.

4. Put few ice-cubes in your glass and pour the drink into the glass.

Method when using mango pulp :

1. Put everything in one bowl or jug.

2. Stir it or whisk it until combined.

3. Put few ice-cubes in your glass and pour the drink into the glass.

If you want to make it dairy free, just use df milk of your choice. I highly recommend coconut milk*, it's gonna taste almost like a cross between mango lassi and piña colada!

*Use coconut "milk"which is sometimes called coconut drink, don't use coconut milk from a can, there is too much fat in it.

Enjoy!
